The Finnish national upper secondary school curriculum
includes the following six
thematic entities:
active citizenship and entrepreneurship
well-being and safety
sustainable development
cultural identity and knowledge of cultures
technology and the society
communication and media skills
These entities are operating principles that help define the operating culture of schools, as well as priorisations that overstep borders between different subjects and help make teaching more unified. They must be taken into consideration in the teaching of all subjects.
